Happy Holidays Folks!
I’d like to extend my appreciation to anyone taking time to read my first blog post, and/or visit my photography website! I hope you enjoy the photos, reviews, recipes, and good times that are to be written about.
This weekend I had the pleasure and absolute indulgence of going to London’s first Free From Christmas Food Festival! *link here* Before moving to the UK, I hadn’t heard the phrase “free-from”; back home in the US we just use phrases like gluten-free or dairy-free. Those are of course more specific than the all-encompassing “free-from”, which seems to include most if not all allergens, and even applies to vegan and vegetarian restrictions as well. It’s a fantastic concept, and the festival brought together so many companies creating all types of edibles for the growing communities who need and want food free from NASTIES!
When I arrived at the festival, I was greeted by helpful staff who pointed me upstairs into the gigantic room of food! Nothing is more exciting than free samples of foods I would normally have to make at home to ensure they were safe to eat. There were cookies, cakes, chocolate, breads, pastas, crisps (chips), BOOZE, pizza, salads, wraps, crepes, veggie bowls, sauces, mixes, and everything in between. On top of the piles of food and drinks, live music and speakers sharing their stories livened up the venue (though most people seemed as excited as I was without much encouragement). By the way, when I say most people, I mean people elbow to elbow, squeezing their ways round the maze of food stalls, stopping to taste, chat, and Instagram at every turn. Hauling my backpack and camera around in a place like this was no easy feat.
Due to the crowds and quality of vendors, I expect this event to grow in popularity next year, and hope to be around for their summer festival in 2017! I’ll link each the photos to the company photographed, for those who want to check out more from them and try their products. Thanks again to the folks at Free From Festival for providing tickets and spoiling me with a goody bag (pictured below) of treats to take home and try.
Everyone enjoy the holiday season, free from allergens, intolerances, and anything unwanted in all the delicious feasting this week!
